Building a Café for Chelmsford
The Amber Owl was founded by Adam Mitchell, whose long experience working in cafes and mastering coffee shaped every detail. Adam personally selected the blend of coffee served here, making it unique to The Amber Owl — crafted for our community and unlike anywhere else.
Opening last week, the café is a blend of thoughtful design, welcoming character, and a commitment to building real connections. Adam worked with local artists and craftspeople to ensure the space reflects the city’s creative spirit. The theme and atmosphere will continue to grow and evolve as the café itself grows, shaped by the people who walk through our doors.

How we got here
Opening Week
Adam Mitchell opens The Amber Owl Coffeehouse, welcoming Chelmsford's community to a space designed for connection, creativity, and comfort. The first week saw neighbours, friends, and curious newcomers fill the café, sharing stories and discovering a new local home for great coffee.
Building Character
Every detail, from the logo to the layout, was crafted to reflect Chelmsford's spirit. Adam worked closely with local artists and makers, ensuring the café's design felt both modern and rooted in the city's history.

Four-legged guests always welcome
From day one, we decided The Amber Owl would be a place for the whole family! Which, for many of us, includes a dog. We keep water bowls topped up, treats behind the counter, and enough space for all sizes.
Some of our best regulars have four legs and very strong opinions about croissants.
